Dang Trip : Tharu Raja Dangisharan and His Palace

I was so excited to hear that all of us as a family would go on a surprise trip Dang that I couldn’t sleep that night. We all woke up at 4 am and my mom prepared the food (Dhikkri and Snacks roasted meat) that we were taking to our journey started at 5 am at morning and we reached Dang at about 11 am.

Tharu Raja Dangisharan, the King of Tharus. I only heard his name and palace but now I have visited and analyzed it too. We even placed our foot on our origin place Patali Gaun where our old ancestor lived.  Never thought that we would visit our origin place where our ancestor were born and originally located. It was very different feeling and proud moment. Visiting Tharu King Dangisharan’s Cultural Museum which was located on Chakhaura Dang District was very fabulous feeling as we had a lot of tharus indigenous things to explore. We had also visited his original palace which was located in Sukaura Dang. In his palace, there was a big statue of him and a big garden full of bushes. However, the king’s palace was really beautiful and big, if that place can be cleaned and conserved then it would be really prodigious. We visited different blogs of house in museum.

In the first Blog of house; there are full of indigenous tharus traditional sculptures and old type tharu’s traditional houses and many more things to absorb knowledge from it. As we entered to the museum, we firstly noticed the beautiful waterfall and in that water falling lake I detected that there were people fishing. In beginning, I thought that those people were live physical but all those statues were fishing. Realistic statues were also fabricated of people working like fishing in the lake, working in the field, preparing and eating food and many more.

I was very fascinated as those sculptures looked so real. After that, we explored old small houses of tharu people. Those houses looked so real and statues of people working on fields, dancing sakhiya nach, having conversation in a community, female cooking food and guest sitting and eating food; those statues  also looked very genuine. We enjoyed a lot clicking photos and discovering new belongings.

In the second blog of house, there are full of tharu traiditional houses setup, yard (Bahari) and Manjhyari, Kanti, Bansa, Deuhrar. In the Bhittar (Bansa) there are realist statues of Bansariya’s who is cooking food and firing Chula. We were also enjoying with statues of guesting Kontti. There are two relative people sitting on the mate. They looked like real men and gestures too.

In The Third blog of house; there are Dangaura’s Tharus, Rana Tharus traditional ornaments and dresses were also stored and use as a showcase in that Tharu museum. Clicking photos in that room of ornaments was not allowed but we enjoyed a lot. Many old utensils prepared by mud was also preserved there. It looked so attractive. In another room, beautiful couples were standing with tharu cultural dress and also Rana cultural dress. Many old art and crafts, pictures and sculptures of Tharu community was also preserved there. There were 3 different layer of Dang Deukhuri Valley’s Praganas Guruba’s statues with their name too. There was also a big snail (ghonga) statue, people enjoy and click photos there. In the backward of a house, there was a small pond named bulbul. Statues of King Dangisharan, nymph Queen and flying horse are also preserved there. There was also the service of providing and wearing of Tharu traditional dress clothes with photographers.

After visiting the museum, we also visited King Dangisharan’s palace which was located on Sukaura of Dang. His palace was in the mid of jungle. King Dangisharan palace was really big, but it was a bit dirty and full of bushes. If those bushes and palace can be cleaned, then it can be a great place for tourism destiny. Many people don’t know about Tharu traditions and King Dangisharan. He was the great King of old Tharu people who contributed a lot to preserve tharu culture and traditions.

And there are also a noticeable insight the paddy fields of Dang were so fascinating that it was like watching them live. The land was very fertile and people were also good. When we asked an old man to help us show the way, he responded in a sweet way. After that, while returning home we also visited to Bageshwori temple of Nepalgunj. We enjoyed a lot exploring different things and having fun spending time with family relatives there.

We had brought our own food prepared from our own. We settle in a cafe which was locate inside museum. We had brought Dhikri, fried chicken, fried fish and many other food items. The owner of that cafe came to our table and said where did you brought this dhirki we also have them in our cafe. As our food looked attractive, she also tasted our food and gave a good compliment to us.

Everything that belongs to Tharu community were present there. It is a good tourism destination as bunch of people were visiting there and also a very wonderful place to learn and discover different things of tharu community.

We had suffered a lots of challenges while we were heading to visit the Tharu Raja Dangisharan’s Cultural museum. Vomiting, under constructed road and numerable bend of hilly place also other things, we faced on the way of visiting. In spite of the challenging, it was fun journey. If I got one more chance to visit I would love to.
